Just Another Way the Democrats Stick it to the Taxpayer

While Paying Off Another Campaign Dept

It’s payback time for Big Labor and the bosses aren’t waiting any longer. With the November elections just around the corner and things not looking so good for the Democrats, the union bosses see the writing on the wall. They want their payback now before it’s too late.

Happy to oblige his Big Labor buddies, Harry Reid just re-introduced The Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act (S. 3194). Also known as the Police and Firefighter Monopoly Bargaining Bill, it will mandate collective bargaining for public safety workers in all 50 states. The bill is written to require states, counties, and municipalities to recognize and bargain with unions on behalf of police, firefighters, and EMS workers irrespective of any current state laws.

At the same time that states, cities, and many municipalities are going broke -- many due to the wage, benefit, and pension packages negotiated by public-sector unions -- the PSEECA intrudes on states’ rights and is yet another significant, unfunded mandate by the federal government that will force state and local governments to either raise taxes or cut services.

The fact that the bill was brought to the Senate floor without proper committee consideration speaks volumes as to how hard the union bosses are pushing. Under this legislation, no matter what the state or local laws are, every police officer and firefighter will be required to join a union. Furthermore, every state, even if it already recognizes employee collective bargaining rights, will have to conform to the federal regulations within two years.

It’s not surprising that National League of Cities and other similar national organizations oppose the legislation. State and local governments that are already struggling will have the added burden of paying the salaries and benefits of the union bosses. Small communities that depend on volunteer police and firefighters will be forced to do without them.

If you think Harry and the Democrat gang are overstepping their responsibilities with the Police and Firefighter Monopoly Bargaining Bill and are infringing on state and local matters, you should write your Senators and let them know you oppose the bill and the effrontery of their actions that should be left to state and local governments.

But don’t hesitate. Harry and Nancy want to get this legislation put to bed before the taxpayers get wind of it.
